"J'ai rêvé dans la grotte où nage la sirène"
(I have dreamed in the cave where the siren swims)

Gérard de Nerval

venue: some internet cafe at Siem Reap!

HEY ALL!! yes, i is in siam reap. muahahaha. having loads of fun here. the temperature here is unbelieveable hothothot. remember that really hot spell we had in school around the exam period? Well, it's something like that here but worse. yes. worse.

we took the train from the bangkok station, sitting 3rd class all the way to near the border of cambodia/thailand, before we took tuk tuk to the actual border pass and rented a toyota camry to siem reap. it was really great! i love trains!!! and they had all these train hawers running u and down, hawking their wares, etc, man, it was so great. *happy sigh*

anyays, i have done two days worth of temple trails and it was really gooor-geous. angkor wat is overhyped tho'. saw better and more beautiful temple ruins. and we hung out at the red piano, the angelina jolie tomb raider bar. and apparently, gail and i can pass off for either khymer or thai. i don't know whether to be flattered, amused or worried. hurhurhur.

the hotel/motel place i'm staying at is excellent. its called earthwalkers and if anyone is thinking of going to siam reap, i highly recommend it. take the air-con rooms tho. its totally worth the extra cash. i hate waking up bathed in sweat.

we've seem to have made friends with our local khymer guide. we had drinks with him last night at the red piano and we're going to his house today! how exciting! to see how cambodians live, etc. and seriously, sad to say, after a while, all the temples start looking the same, even thought u're still struck with a sense of immense awe whenever you stick your head out of the tuk tuk to catch a glimpse of these structures along the temple road circuit.

and i rode a motorbike! well, they call them motos here and i was a pillion rider but for some reason (social etiquette or something), girls don't ride astride the bike, rather they ride with their legs to the side of the bike. how quaint eh? and they don't need helmets either. hurhur

anyhoos, today is my last day in siam reap :( moving onto phnom penh via bus tomorrow moring bright and early (quarter to seven methinks).

and i haven't gotten the runs yet. but today we're tempting fate by eating along the roadside. apparently there's some green soyabean drink here? and cambodian soup is EXCELLENT. all spicy, sour and sweet, with peppermint and chunks of pineapple.

and we've meet some of yeehoong's friends here. she's on attachment from SG, med student, at the children's hospital here. and her friend, a girl from torronto, is helping out with the kids at angkor wat, teaching and protecting them from paedophiles. and looking at the beautiful children here, with their deep dark skins, lipid eyes and the look of old souls, you can really begin to understand why they're so hot with the dirty old men. and it's really been an experience here, talking ith these two girls, and finding out more about the social problems and conditions of this beautiful but dusty (hurhur) place.

ok, time's almost up and i really want to go eat. am starving. see y'all from phnom penh.
